Members of Donegal County Council observed a minute’s silence this morning in memory of the ten people who lost their lives in the 2022 Creeslough tragedy.

Elected members and council executive staff stood in silence ahead of the plenary meeting in Lifford following a request from Cllr Tómas Seán Devine.

The gesture comes ahead of the fourth anniversary of the tragedy next week, with the victims set to be remembered on Wedneday, 7th October.

Cllr Devine asked that the council take time to remember those who were killed, those who were injured and all of the families affected.

“It’s only fair, with this meeting happening before the anniversary next week, that we take a moment to think about those that lost their lives and their families," Cllr Devine said.

Four men, three women and three children died in the Creeslough explosion. The victims, aged from five to 59, were Robert Garwe and his five-year-old daughter Shauna Flanagan-Garwe, Catherine O'Donnell and her 13-year-old son James Monaghan, Jessica Gallagher, Martin McGill, James O'Flaherty, Martina Martin, Hugh Kelly and 14-year-old Leona Harper.
