€5.4 million for roadworks in Manorhamilton district

The Roadworks Plan 2026 for Manorhamilton Municipal District was presented to councillors at the recent meeting of the MD.

Darragh O'Boyle, Senior Engineer, Transportation and Infrastructure with Leitrim County Council, presented the programme, which is under the 2026 Area Works Programme, to councillors.

Mr O'Boyle took the councillors through the funding allocations under the roadworks plan for the district.

The overall budget for the Manorhamilton Municipal District is € 5.4 million.

There is a total allocation of €162,000 for National Roads in the district. Meanwhile, a total of €4.2 million was allocated under the non-national roads grants in the district.

Local road upkeep amounts to €377,603. Amenity Grants were allocated €106,778. Active Travel measures received an allocation of €536,666.

The Discretionary Maintenance Grant received €642,690. The Restoration Improvement Grant was allocated €2.7 million. Meanwhile, the Bridge Rehabilitation Grant received €190,250.

Speaking about the roads programme, Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District, Padraig Fallon, said that, “drainage is a big issue in North Leitrim. It is a specific issue on a number of roads.”

There is no allocation for drainage work or drainage schemes in the municipal district.

The Sinn Fein representative also expressed concern about footpaths in the district.

In response, Vincent Dwyer, Director of Services, told the meeting that “the council does not have a dedicated allocation for footpaths. We will see what balance is left from the programme to deal with footpaths.”
