Kilkenny TD welcomes framework for Budget 2027

Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow- Kilkenny , Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere, has welcomed the publication of the Government’s Summer Economic Statement 2026, saying it sets the framework for a Budget 2027 that will reward workers, support public services and continue investment in critical infrastructure.

Approved by Cabinet today, the statement provides for an overall budget package of €8.5 billion for 2027, comprising €7 billion in additional public expenditure and €1.5 billion in taxation measures.

The statement sets an overall Government expenditure ceiling of €125.5 billion for 2027, including €105.2 billion for current spending and €20.3 billion for capital investment.

Speaking on the announcement, Deputy Cleere said: “The Irish economy remains in a strong position and has shown its resilience despite the external challenges and geopolitical uncertainty we have faced over the past year.”

“We have record levels of employment, strong consumer spending and continued public and private investment. That strong economic performance gives us the opportunity to continue investing in our country while also recognising the contribution made by workers.”

“While the Summer Economic Statement sets the fiscal framework for Budget 2027, it is clear that the Government’s priority is to reward people for their hard work. As Minister Jack Chambers has indicated, the Budget will deliver a tax package that supports workers while continuing to address cost of living pressures,” he added.
