Carlow man told gardaí he ‘smoked crack cocaine and had taken tablets’ - Courts - Carlow Nationalist

GARDAÍ responding to reports of a man knocking on doors in a Carlow housing estate found the resident intoxicated and unsteady on his feet. He told them he had smoked crack cocaine and taken a number of tablets.

Justin Freeman (37) of Avondale Drive, Hanover, Carlow pleaded guilty through his solicitor John O’Sullivan to a section 4 public order offence - of being intoxicated in a public place - at Carlow District Court.

Judge Geraldine Carthy heard that on 13 September 2025, gardaí received a call about a male walking around and knocking on doors in Avondale housing estate. When they arrived, they found Mr Freeman on the street. He appeared intoxicated and unsteady on his feet and told gardaí that “he had smoked crack cocaine and taken a number of tablets”.

He was arrested and taken to Carlow Garda Station before being brought to St Luke’s hospital in Kilkenny for medical treatment.

Mr O’Sullivan told the court that “on the day in question, Mr Freeman was not in a very good place”.

Judge Carthy said her jurisdiction in relation to the matter was “quite limited”. She convicted the defendant and imposed a fine of €250, to be paid within 90 days.
