Two men to be sentenced following Limerick arson attack

Two men have been charged in connection with an alleged arson attack at a private residence in the city.

David Kelly, aged 42, of no fixed abode, is charged with the arson of 213 Sarsfield Avenue, Upper Pennywell Street, Limerick on November 12, 2023. Jamie Foreman, aged 40, of Linden Court, Kennedy Park, Limerick is also charged with arson at the same location, on the same date.

Mr Kelly’s name was on Judge Colin Daly’s circuit court list, but Mr Kelly did not appear in court when the case was called. Prosecuting Barrister for the State, John O’Sullivan said the victim of the alleged offence was in court.

Barrister Pat Barriscale, representing Mr Foreman, applied for the case to be adjourned on two grounds. He said it would allow more time for a Probation Report to be completed and allow him to provide evidence to the court regarding probation treatment.

Judge Daly granted a short adjournment, stating that the “progress he’s making in his treatment is more important to me”.

The judge scheduled for Mr Kelly and Mr Foreman to appear in court on the same date in June. He indicated he will then fix dates for a sentencing hearing.
