Man who told gardaí he lives in a lane refused bail at Limerick court

A MAN who told gardaí that his address is a bin at the back of Augustinian Lane in Limerick city centre has been denied bail.

Albert McNamara - also known as Tyson McNamara, aged 29, of no fixed abode, was stopped by security guards at Dunnes Stores, Jetland Shopping Centre on April, 21, 2026.

CCTV footage of the incident, which was played at Limerick District Court, allegedly shows Mr McNamara holding a shopping trolley between him and two security guards.

It is the prosecution case that Mr McNamara lunged at a security guard.

Solicitor Tom Kiely, representing Mr McNamara, said one of the security guards caught Mr McNamara in a bear type hold.

He detailed that Mr McNamara was given the nickname Tyson in his youth.

Judge Patricia Harney said Mr McNamara has the presumption of innocence and the right to liberty until found guilty.

She further commented that her overriding concern is ensuring that he attends court. She added that she believed the garda evidence.

Considering the seriousness of charges, the CCTV footage, and witness statements, the judge refused Mr McNamara bail.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the case.
