Kilkenny residents take on huge project to mark milestone anniversary

Residents of Orchard Close, Kilkenny , were joined by Mayor John Coonan, Cllr Maria Dollard, officials from Kilkenny County Council and Clúid staff to plant a pocket forest on an under-used green area in the estate.

The Kilkenny pocket forest is one of five tree-planting projects undertaken by Clúid to mark the 30th anniversary of the first residents getting their keys.

The Mayor said: “I am delighted to congratulate Clúid Housing on their landmark 30th anniversary. Their commitment to our city and county has been transformative, providing more than just high-quality houses; they have built vibrant, inclusive communities where people truly feel at home”.

In Kilkenny, we have seen firsthand the positive impact of their work. By delivering secure, sustainable, and affordable housing, Clúid has empowered local families and individuals to thrive”.

Pocket forests are small native forests which bring nature to urban and suburban areas. They can vary in size from 6qp (the size of a table tennis table) to 100sqm (half a tennis court).

The pocket forest in Orchard Close is nearly 100sqm and was created by planting small tree and shrub saplings close together.
