There is delight following the decision by the Department of Education to provide a bus service for students moving to a new school later this month.

Doochary National School was forced to close its doors earlier this year due to declining numbers.

The primary school students that attended Doochary National School are now moving to Baile na Finne National School.

However, parents and others were campaigning for a bus service to be granted to take them to-and-from their new school.

Earlier today, that wish was granted when the Department of Education confirmed that a new bus service had been given the green light.

Donegal Deputy Pat The Cope Gallagher has warmly welcomed the news.

He highlighted how the decision will be a weight lifted from parents, and provides clarity ahead of the new academic year.

"I was pleased to learn that the Department of Education has approved school transport for the children that attended Doochary National School and are now moving to a new school in Fintown. This is very welcome news for the pupils and their families and provides much-needed certainty ahead of the new school year.
