A JURY was sworn in last week for the trial of a man who is accused of assault at a fair in Banagher more than two years ago.

James Hogan Junior, Bolster Terrace, Mallow, Co Cork, pleaded not guilty at Tullamore Circuit Court on Friday (April 17) to assaulting John Connors at Main Street, Banagher on September 17, 2023.

Shane Geraghty, BL, prosecutor for Offaly, told a jury panel that the alleged offence was committed at a fair and a son of the alleged victim was also potentially a witness in the trial. The alleged victim has an address in Naas, he added.

The jury of nine men and three women was told to return on Tuesday morning (April 21) when it is expected the trial will begin.
