'Sinister' - Racist vandalism reported on Castlebellingham's Main Street

Reports of racist vandalism on the Main Street in Castlebellingham has been called "disgraceful" and "sinister" by local councillor Pearse McGeough.

The vandalism, which included a racial slur as well as a swastika appeared on a wooden doorway in the village over the weekend.

In a social media post, Cllr McGeough said: "This mentality and racist language has no place in decent society and certainly no place in Castlebellingham. The people of this village are good, decent people and this sort of thing does not reflect who they are.

This derogatory racial slur has started to disappear from common English language as the world develops and people have become more educated. Unfortunately, in this case, some are not as educated or developed as the rest of us.

These people knew what they were doing as they took the time to carve the word into a wooden doorway along with a swatsika. They obviously had some sort of sharp implement on their person to carry out the act which in itself is quite sinister.

An Garda Síochána said it has not received any reports of the vandalism as of yet and "cannot comment on third party material shared online and via messaging apps or on remarks made by third parties".
