A local councillor has requested Kildare County Council (KCC) to assess a region for the potential construction of a new footpath.
Fine Gael Cllr Kevin Duffy suggested the assessment at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 17 last.

During this meeting, Cllr Duffy, who appeared by virtual means, motioned for KCC to assess ‘the opportunity to construct a footpath from Mount Prospect into Rathangan, and to add it to the Roads Programme 2027 for consideration’.
His motion was seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer.
In addition Cllr Duffy told KCC that, in his view, the construction of a footpath in this location ‘would provide accessibility for a number of residents’.
Replying to his motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: “The Municipal District Office will assess the suitability of the area for the construction of a footpath.”
However, KCC also pointed out: “It should be noted that the area is outside of the 50 kilometres per hour speed limit, and would likely require third party lands to construct a footpath according to minimum standards.”
