Michael Hawe alleged arsonist Letterkenny

A LETTERKENNY man has been remanded in custody following a series of court appearances connected to an alleged arson and criminal damage incident in the town.

Michael Hawe (34) of James Larkin Court, Letterkenny, appeared by video-link at Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

He is charged with criminal damage and trespass at INK Tattoo in Oldtown, Letterkenny, on June 9.

At a previous sitting on that charge, Hawe was remanded on bail, with conditions that he stay away from the damaged premises and reside at his home address.

Those bail conditions were intended to prevent any further contact between the defendant and the Oldtown premises while the original case was being dealt with.

However, the court heard that the following day, June 10, Hawe returned to the property and allegedly attempted to set fire to a wooden floor inside the premises, with further criminal damage said to have occurred at the scene.

The alleged breach of bail conditions led to his subsequent arrest and continued detention.

Mr Rory O’Brien, representing Hawe for the third time, told the court his client remains in custody.

The case was put back until July 13, with Gardaí still awaiting directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions before proceedings can advance further.

Hawe will remain in custody until the case returns before Letterkenny District Court.
