Portsalon man found drunk and asleep at Letterkenny casino

A 40-YEAR-OLD man appeared before Letterkenny District Court for the public order offences of being in an intoxicated state and a danger to himself.

Mark Reilly (40), of Corry, Portsalon was found sleeping at Majestic Casino, Port Road, Letterkenny on May 29 this year.

Garda Sergeant Oliver Devaney told the court heard that when Gardaí roused Reilly, that he was un-cooperative and refused to leave the area, appeared intoxicated, was unsteady on his feet and was subsequently arrested for his own safety and brought to Letterkenny Garda station.

Sergeant Devaney told the court that the defendant had seven previous convictions from Westport District Court going back to 2009-2010, including for being drunk and disorderly on September 17, 2009.

Defending solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher said it was the first time Reilly had been before the courts in a long number of years and requested leniency given that his client was intoxicated at the time.

Judge Emile Daly convicted and fine Reilly €100, with four months to pay.
