An alarming video has depicted the deterioration of a home built with defective concrete in less than 20 years.

The video, posted on social media by 100% Redress County Councillor Ali Farren, shows a home covered in large, wide cracks.

Cllr Farren also points out a large, crumbling hole in the outside wall.

The Malin Head-based Cllr said that it was 'heart breaking to see a house built in 2007 crumbling away.'

He added how, 'sadly without proper regulation this will continue to happen'.

Speaking in the video, Cllr Farren said the house is due to be demolished 'in the next day or two.'

Crumbling the concrete in his hands, he said: "This is the concrete that built this house."

Cllr added that, the 'sad thing about it,' is that a 'new house being built in this country could still be being built with similar blocks to this.'

Cllr Farren added that the Government is 'spending the most money ever' on the Enhanced Defective Concrete Block Scheme, but is not 'focusing on the root cause of the problem'.

"This is an internal sulphate attack on the concrete. I could take this house apart with my finger."

He concluded: "We need to have quality control on all building projects, going forward."
