Man allegedly cultivated cannabis without licence in Offaly town

A MAN has been accused of cannabis possession and the cultivation of cannabis without a licence at his own address.

Edward Kelly (49), 34 McAuley Drive, Birr , is alleged to have committed those two offences at his address on July 20 last.

When Mr Kelly appeared before Tullamore District Court Sergeant Richard Thornton said the DPP had directed that the prosecution could be disposed of summarily.

New community hall to be constructed in Offaly village Mr Kelly told Judge Andrew Cody that Patrick Martin was his solicitor and the judge asked the gardai to disclose full details of the case against the defendant to Mr Martin within three weeks.

Judge Cody remanded Mr Kelly on continuing bail to October 7 next, saying he wished to know on that date where or not he was pleading guilty.

The judge said that if the accused man denies the charges a hearing will take place on November 2.
