Donegal Councillor Noel Jordan is calling on Irish Water to tackle the issue of raw sewage that is badly impacting homes in Mountcharles.
Sinn Féin councillor Noel Jordan has said the issue of raw sewage that is affecting a number of homes in Mountcharles is simply not good enough.
Jordan has called on Irish Water to resolve the ongoing problem at the pumping station located on the Forge Road.
The Sinn Féin councillor spoke to Donegal Daily after the recent meeting of the Donegal Municipal District in Donegal Town last week.
"We got two new pumping stations in Mountcharles, which is fantastic - and they will now pump our sewage to the new Veolia plant in Donegal Town. That took years of lobbying from 2014 right through to 2026, and the job is almost completed.
"However, a small pumping station on the Forge Road that services a number of houses in Mountcharles is being left behind," said Jordan.
Jordan expressed his disbelief that Irish Water never made plans to connect the pumping station on the Forge Road to the new plant in Donegal Town.
"I thought it was going to be connected to the new plant as well, but Irish Water have said they didn't know about it, which I just totally can't understand, but they have said they will look at it.
"But the fact of the matter is, when you come in and make a plan to do a big job, and it's a good job I have to say so far, then you think the Forge Road pumping station would've been included in the plan as well," said Jordan.

Jordan said the Forge Road pumping station is not longer adequate and properly functional.
"The plant on the Forge Road regularly overflows, and it's simply not fit for purpose because of the number of houses on it.
"Irish Water is emptying that pumping station every 2-3 weeks, but you still see raw sewage coming up through manholes and running out onto the street and the footpath, and it's just not good enough that people have to trod through it," said Jordan.
Jordan is pleading with Irish Water to ensure the pumping station on the Forge Road is connected to the new plant before contractors finish work on the two new pumping stations in Mountcharles.
"I'm calling on Irish Water to address that now before the two pumping stations in Mountcharles is fully commissioned, because when a contractor moves on that's it, it's game over, so we want that addressed now," said Jordan.
