A man has appeared before a Donegal Court charged with breaches of a protection order - including claims that he watched a woman’s home while hiding in a hedge.
The man, who is in his 60s and cannot be named for legal reasons due to the nature of the charges, appeared before Letterkenny District Court.
He is charged with four counts of breaching a protection order previously granted in the District Court. The charges are contrary to section 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2018.
He is charged that he was in a hedge at the side of a woman’s home watching her house.
He is also charged that he was in a field at the side of the woman’s home and putting her in fear on another date.
On another date, he is charged with hiding in the hedge at the side of the woman’s house and putting her in fear.
The woman also reported that she observed the man in a field at the rear of her home and appearing to fill her septic tank with clay.
The defendant faces a further charge that he threatened to cause harm to members of An Garda Siochana in that he did, during the course of a dispute, produce a pitchfork. That charge is contrary to section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

The court heard that a solicitor has come off record in the matter and the man told Judge Emile Daly that he does not have a solicitor at present.
After the man asked for a further month to allow him time to get a solicitor, Judge Daly told him: “It needs to be dealt with straight away”.
The case was adjourned until January 2027 and the man was warned: “it will proceed on that day”.
The man was remanded on bail on the same terms and conditions. Judge Daly told the accused that he is obliged to attend on the next date.
“That is enough time to get another solicitor,” Judge Daly said.
