Letterkenny District Court heard the man was driving at 137kmph in a 100kmph zone.

A MAN who drove whilst being 24 times over the limit for cocaine has been handed a three-year disqualification.

Kevin Patrick McGilloway of Glengalliagh Park, Derry, was arrested at Dromore, Letterkenny, when he was detected travelling at 137kmph in a 100kmph zone.

The defendant, who did not appear at Letterkenny District Court on Tuesday when his case was being heard, was also fined €1,300 in total.

Garda Stephen Campbell told the court that when he stopped 44-year-old McGilloway, the driver identified himself and provided his address.

Garda Campbell said McGilloway’s eyes appeared to be dilated and the garda asked him to provide a fluid specimen.

The results of the oral fluid test revealed a presence of cocaine.

Garda Campbell arrested McGilloway and brought him to Letterkenny Garda Station, where a blood test was carried out. The results revealed that there was no alcohol in McGilloway’s system but there was a presence of benzoylecgonine (cocaine).

The accused had a presence of 1,214.8 nanogrames per millilitre in his blood.

The legal limit for driving with cocaine is 50 nanogrames per millilitre of blood.

In relation to the speeding offence, Judge Emile Daly fined the defendant €500.

On the charge of driving while under the influence of drugs, Judge Daly disqualified him from driving for three years and imposed a fine of €800.
