An assessment is due for a road located in County Kildare with 'restricted sightlines' and 'poor visibility'.

Kildare County Council (KCC) said that it would conduct the assessment in response to a motion which was heard at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 17 last.

During the early stages of this meeting, Independent Cllr Pat Balfe motioned for ‘carry out a Road Safety Audit and engineering assessment of the junction at Magee Terrace and the R445 in Kildare Town’.

According to Cllr Balfe, residents living in this region have reported ‘significant road safety concerns arising from restricted sightlines and poor visibility when attempting to exit onto the main road’.

His motion was seconded by Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender.

He also claimed that a child was struck by a car during one recent incident.

Replying to Cllr Balfe’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: “The Municipal District Office will carry out an assessment at this location.”

However, KCC also stressed that the ‘level of intervention possible by KCC to the entrance of Magee Terrace is limited as the lands are not in the ownership of KCC’.
