"Slow down and take extra care around schools" is the plea from one young school-goer
By Martin Quilty · KCLR · 1 September 2026

The call comes as part of ’Road Wise’, KCLR’s new road safety radio initiative
Oisín’s plea comes in the wake of Gardaí detecting a number speeding by educational f acilities during yesterday’s National Slow Down Day.
And the call comes as part of ‘Road Wise’, KCLR’s new road safety radio initiative which includes two weekly inserts to programmes and a monthly show focused on road safety, featuring emergency services personnel, those who’ve been impacted by crashes and other such incidents and our young people.
Oisín is reminding us; “Children across Carlow and Kilkenny are returning to school this week; we are urging drivers, parents & young children to take extra care on the roads”.
Listen out for the messages on air and online in the coming weeks and if you’d like to outline your safety concern or experience please email [email protected]
