Toghchán Údarás na Gaeltachta go fóill ar an méar fhada agus go leor céimeanna le sárú ag Bille

Is cosúil go bhfuil an dáta go dtionólfar toghcháin Údarás na Gaeltachta chomh fada uainn is a bhí riamh tar éis gur fhoilsigh an Rialtas liosta na mbillí atá ar chlár oibre an Oireachtais sa téarma Dála atá romhainn an tseachtain seo.

Bhíodh toghcháin ann chun comhaltaí boird ionadaíoch ar na ceantair Ghaeltachta éagsúla a thoghadh go dtí 2012 ach cuireadh deireadh leo mar chuid de bheartais an Rialtais chun airgead a shábháil.

Is iomaí uair go bhfuil gealltanas tugtha ag páirtithe éagsúla go dtabharfar ar ais na toghcháin do bhord an Údaráis. Ina gclár toghcháin roimh olltoghchán na Samhna anuraidh, gheall Fianna Fáil go dtionólfadh an pháirtí “toghcháin dhíreacha do bhord an Údaráis”.

Faoi láthair ceapann comhairlí contae ina bhfuil limistéir Ghaeltachta ionadaithe – ionadaí amháin ó Chiarraí, Gaillimh, Maigh Eo is Tír Chonaill. Bíonn deis ag comhairlí contae ina bhfuil limistéir Ghaeltachta níos lú, Corcaigh, Port Láirge agus Contae na Mí uainíocht a dhéanamh ar a chéile ar feadh tréimhsí dhá bhliana.

De réir na reachtaíochta nua atá á mholadh, beidh bord le sé comhalta déag agus beidh deichniúr á dtoghadh le hionadaíocht a dhéanamh ar na bpobal Gaeltachta agus bheadh an seisear eile le ceapadh tar éis comórtas poiblí.
