New drink driving case Letterkenny

A DERRY man was before Letterkenny District Court on Monday for alleged drink driving and failing to give his address to gardaí.

Garda Gerard McNamee gave evidence of stopping Peter O’Neill (57), of Goshadel, Ardmore, Derry, at 4.49pm on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Pearse Road, Letterkenny.

The court heard that O’Neill failed to give his name and correct address to gardaí and that, when breathalysed, he was found to have 81ug of alcohol per 100ml of breath, almost four times the legal limit for a fully licenced driver, contrary to sections four and five of the Road Traffic Act 2010.

O’Neill was remanded in custody on station bail of €300 which he could not pay.

Nobody was representing the defendant in court on Monday, as defence solicitors continued to escalate their legal aid dispute with the court system.

Judge Daly directed that disclosure of evidence be served directly on O’Neill.

He was remanded on court bail of €150 to appear before the court again on September 21.
