Longford County Council’s Dog Control Service has confirmed through their social media that the five puppies seen wandering the Lanesboro -Roscommon road, outside Longford town on Monday morning, are now safe and well.

The pups - who were described as Labradors but identified in the comment section as being more akin to Cane Corso X Rottweilers - are currently in the care of Longford Dog Pound.

In a post updating followers on the puppies’ welfare, Longford County Council explained that the owner had been located and had agreed to surrender the pups to the council.

The Longford Leader has requested confirmation from the council as to whether the owner is currently being investigated by Gardaí and if the welfare of the pups' mother has been established.

In their update, the council added that the dog pound was now “working closely with an Animal Welfare Organisation with a view to rehoming them into safe and loving homes” and that they were “happy to report that all five pups are doing well.”
