Council to explore options for dog park in Letterkenny-Milford district - Donegal News

DONEGAL County Council will explore options for developing a dedicated dog park in the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.

The decision comes from a motion tabled by Independent Cllr Declan Meehan at the June Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting.

Cllr Meehan told councillors that he was a “very proud dog owner”.

He said that public parks in the MD are dog-free and suggested that a dedicated dog park could help lessen conflict on beaches between dog owners and other users.

“A safe, enclosed environment would encourage owner responsibility, help reduce isolation and build connection,” said Cllr Meehan.

He said such parks would be practical and community-focused facilities.

The motion was seconded by 100% Redress Cllr Tomás Seán Devine.

He suggested the new Church Lane park, which is being developed as part of the Cathedral Quarter Park Project, as a possible location.

The official response to the motion reads: “The Project Development Team in Community Development work collaboratively across all directorates in developing project proposals seeking to meet the needs of the community, while aligning with the objectives of a number of funding programme and in this regard including CLÁR and Town and Village, and will explore the options available in relation to the development of dog parks.”
