Mark English has been proposed to be bestowed with the second highest honour in the county.
The Finn Valley AC athlete won a historic 800m Gold medal at the European Championships in Birmingham last month.
At today’s meeting of Lifford-Stranorlar MD, Councillor Patrick McGowan said the Letterkenny man should be recognised for his ‘great achievement.’
“The club asked me if he could be honoured with a countywide Civic Reception,” he said.
Cllr Martin Harley seconded the proposal and Cllr Gary Doherty said he would raise the matter at the next meeting of the council’s Corporate Policy Group (CPC).
Cllr Doherty said the proposal will be considered by the CPC and ratified at a full meeting of Donegal County Council.
