'Limited intervention' deemed necessary for this Kildare road

'Limited intervention' in the form of road works was deemed necessary for one County Kildare road.

That’s according to Kildare County Council (KCC), which included the comments in a report presented to local councillors in attendance at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting on Wednesday, June 17 last.

The road KCC was referring to was the Togher Road, which was initially raised by Independent Cllr Pat Balfe, who also previously sought traffic calming measures (in addition to an overall assessment) for the road back at the February MD meeting.

And at the latest MD meeting, Cllr Balfe asked KCC to provide an update in relation to these measures.

Independent Cllr Pat Balfe | PHOTO CREDIT: KILDARECOCO.IE In response, KCC revealed via the report it presented at the meeting: “The MD Office carried out an assessment of the Togher Road in Monasterevin following the previous motion [from a previous MD meeting].

“Significant works had previously been carried out in the area by the MD Office, so limited intervention was deemed to be necessary [for this road]; however, some locations for additional signage were identified and this has been included in a recent signage tender.”

KCC also asserted to Cllr Balfe that the signage ‘will be installed as soon as the order has been received’.

Following this, Cllr Balfe asked KCC if it could provide a timeline in relation to the installation of additional signage on the Togher Road.

This prompted a senior engineer for KCC who was also present at the meeting, Carthac de Brí, to tell Cllr Balfe: “Hopefully before the schools reopen.”
