Tributes were paid this morning to the late County Councillor and Senator, Enda Bonner.

The Dungloe-native was laid to rest in his hometown yesterday. The Fianna Fail veteran passed away last Thursday at the age of 76.

The Cathaoirleach of the Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District (MD), Cllr Patrick McGowan, led the tributes.

“This was a very sad occasion for the whole county,” he said.

“Enda got a wonderful send off yesterday, which was well deserved,” he said.

“It has been said a number of times recently, but he actually put the council business before his own business.”

Cllr Gary Doherty said he had the pleasure of working alongside Mr Bonner for one term of the council.

“Enda had a long political, sporting and business history and he represented this council and the county with great esteem over the years,” he said.

Cllr Martin said he had the honour of attending the late Mr Bonner’s funeral yesterday.

“Enda was a great ambassador for the county in sport, politics and business. He was also a great public representative for the Glenties area for decades.”
