Lettekenny District Court on Monday past heard that on failing to produce evidence of insurance when stopped, the defendant was given 10 days to appear with insurance and failed to do so.

Tolbert failed to appear before the court on three separate dates, the court also heard.

Judge Emile Daly said that there were “no special circumstances” and that is was “discretionary” in favour of the driver as to whether a disqualification was applied to a driver on a first offence of driving uninsured.

Judge Daly convicted and fined Tolbert €450, with four months to pay, and disqualified Tolbert from driving for a period of two years.
