'Serious' parking issues in this Kildare region highlighted

'Serious' parking issues in one County Kildare region have been highlighted by a local councillor.

The claim was heard during the latter half of the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, July 15 last.

It was made by Cllr Tom McDonnell in relation to a motion that he submitted, in which he called for Kildare County Council (KCC) to install extra car parking spaces at Lakeside Park in Newbridge.

According to Cllr McDonnell, he wanted these new spaces to be situated in front of the lake, in order to ‘help residents with serious parking issues in that area’.

Speaking further on the matter, Cllr McDonnell told KCC: “It’s very congested; it’s an exceptionally tight road.”

In response to his motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: “The Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District does not have the resources to construct additional parking spaces at this location.”

KCC added: “The reallocation of open space for parking is only considered in exceptional circumstances and is not the preferred option.”
