Status update on well-known Kildare region released

Kildare County Council (KCC) has released a status update in relation to a well-known County Kildare region.

During the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, May 20 last, the management plan relating to The Curragh Plains was raised by two councillors.

The matter was initially raised when two Fine Gael Cllrs, Peggy O’Dwyer and Tracey O’Dwyer, both submitted the following query to KCC: “Can KCC provide a status update on The Curragh Plains Management Plan to include, but not limited to, current status, next steps and timelines?”

“The Curragh Plains Conservation Management Plan was submitted to the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence, Micháel Martin [TD], for consideration in December 2024 when the Tánaiste approved the publication of the document. “

“As previously advised to this MD, legislative amendments and funding / resource allocations are required, along with the need to identify and put in place the structure of the organisation(s) tasked with the future management of The Curragh Plains.”

KCC concluded by telling Cllr Peggy and Tracey O’Dwyer: “At this time, KCC has no further role in the implementation of the plan.”

Furthermore, a KCC official who was also present at the meeting, Pamela Pender, told the other attendees: “The Department [of Defence] did advise KCC that it would keep us informed.”

Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer then asked Ms Pender if she could write to the Department of Defence in order to seek an update regarding The Curragh Plains Management Plan.

Ms Pender subsquently assured Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer that she would write to the Department of Defence on her behalf following the meeting.
