A FUNDRAISER in support of the Ulm 5 political prisoners will be held in Annagry tomorrow night.
The film night will be held in Scioból an Phobail in aid of Daniel Tatlow-Devally (32) from Dublin and four other international activists who are currently facing trial in Germany.
The Ulm 5 is a group of a pro-Palestinian activists who broke into the Israeli-headquartered Elbit Systems weapons manufacturing facility in Ulm, Germany. The group caused damage and spray-painted walls in the company premises, which supplies weapons to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).
Concerns have been raised for the welfare of Ulm 5 members and how their trial has been conducted since it began in a high-security court in Stuttgart on April 27. They have been in custody since their arrest on September 8, 2025, and are charged with property destruction, trespassing and association with a criminal organisation (Palestine Action Germany).
The movie night will kick off at 7pm and guest speakers are Daniel’s sister Clara Tatlow-Devally and their father Conor. Donations can be made at the door and all are welcome to come along.
In addition, a short film will be shown about Garvaghy Road amid heightened tensions in the area between residents and the Portadown Orange Order.
Cllr Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig is supporting the movie night and says it’s important to show solidarity with political prisoners.
“We’re trying to raise awareness and a few pound for the case,” said the Independent councillor.
He explained there are “huge concerns” surrounding the trial, such as a ban on note-taking in court.
“There have been Irish political prisoners held abroad and it’s important to show solidarity,” he said. “There are huge welfare concerns for Daniel.”
He highlighted the “brutality” used by German authorities against pro-Palestinian activists.
“There’s been quite a lot of violence and intimidation against the small community of Irish people who have protested,” said Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig. “Not by the German people, but the government.”
The film night comes as Donegal councillors unanimously supported a call to release the prisoners, which came from a motion by Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig at the plenary council meeting on Monday.
As the motion was adopted, the official response reads: “the Council will write to the Minister for Foreign Affairs requesting that his department implements consular observation of the ongoing trial of the Ulm 5 (one of whom is an Irish citizen) to the extent allowable in accordance with the department’s Consular Assistance Charter.”
The five members of Ulm 5 are Daniel Tatlow-Devally, Zo Hailu (25, British), Crow Tricks (25, British), Vi Kovarbasic (29, German) and Leandra Rollo (Argentinian/ Spanish).
