Irish Rail Says It’s Boosting Employment Across the Midlands

By Staff reporter · Midlands 103 · 16 October 2026

Both Clara and Tullamore train stations are now fully staffed.

Irish Rail is strengthening its workforce in Offaly, with both Tullamore and Clara stations now fully staffed.

The latest appointment in Clara adds to the organisation’s employment across the two towns.

There are now three employees in Clara and five in Tullamore, bringing both stations in Offaly to a fully staffed position.

Representatives of Irish Rail attended the most recent Tullamore Municipal District meeting, where they discussed ongoing work and future plans with local councillors.

Anti-social behaviour was also discussed, along with the closure of the male bathrooms at Tullamore station, which Irish Rail’s Deputy Corporate Communications Manager, Jane Cregan, explained was due to the facilities being more susceptible to anti-social behaviour.

Ms Cregan also mentioned a very serious incident at the station during Covid.

Therefore, the increase in staff at the station is a positive step towards monitoring the situation and the behaviour of those using the service.

She said staff play an important role in delivering an excellent service to passengers.

Ms Cregan highlighted staffing as an important element of the organisation, describing Irish Rail as a local employer.

She also mentioned that the organisation is always looking for retail opportunities, including the recent arrival of R35 Specialty Coffee, a local business opening a mobile coffee truck at Tullamore station.

She says staff play an important role in delivering an excellent service to passengers:
