NEW sets of traffic lights are due to be switched on at the Ballyraine and Creamery junctions in Letterkenny this month.
NEW sets of traffic lights are due to be switched on in Letterkenny this month.
The lights at the Ballyraine and Creamery junctions have been installed as part of Active Travel projects in the area.
The switch-on of the lights was confirmed at yesterday’s meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District (MD) meeting.
A date has not yet been confirmed, however it is expected to take place before the end of this month.
Independent councillor Declan Meehan praised the “fantastic work” done on the lights and added that he hopes they will be a “great success”.
The N56 Letterkenny Urban Active Travel Project is nearing completion and wider footpaths have already been installed in the Ballyraine area.
However, Fianna Fáil councillor Ciaran Brogan raised the ongoing problem of flooding in the area.
The council said in response that they would contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to try to resolve the issue.
Cllr Brogan said the flooding problem would “reflect very poorly” on the project.
He also asked for an update to concerns raised by residents of Ballyraine Park and Orchard Grove, however none was provided.
Active Travel plans are official strategies and infrastructure projects designed to promote journeys by foot, wheel, bicycle, or non-motorised scooter rather than by car. The aim is to promote sustainable transport and reduce carbon emissions and traditional reliance on cars for short trips and also improve public health.
It was also confirmed at yesterday’s meeting that yellow boxes have been installed on the Knocknamona and Kiltoy roundabouts, following a previous motion by Cllr Gerry McMonagle.
