A Roscommon man who is accused of ordering food and drink in three west Mayo pubs and leaving without paying his bill was remanded in custody.

Francis Johnston with an address at Birchgrove, Creagh, Ballinasloe , Co Roscommon appeared in court in Castlebar yesterday after he was charged with three counts of making off without payment in relation to incidents in three Westport pubs on July 1.

It is alleged that on July 1, Mr Johnston entered the West Bar, Coveys Bar and JJ O'Malley's Bar in Westport and ordered food and made off without paying in either of them.

Mr Johnston was arrested and brought before Judge Michael Connellan in Castlebar courthouse after he was charged with three counts of making off without payment and one charge of intoxication in a public place on Castlebar Street, Westport on July 1.

He was remanded in custody on consent to appear before Castlebar District Court on July 7.
