E-bike seized in Nenagh | Nenagh Guardian

By Court reporter · The Nenagh Guardian · 12 September 2026

An electric bike that was seized by gardaí was returned to its owner at a recent sitting of Nenagh District Court.

James Toohey of Ormond Drive, Nenagh, applied for an order for the release of the e-bike, which was seized at St Joseph’s Park, Nenagh, on June 1 last.

Sergeant Cathal Godfrey said the e-bike was seized from Mr Toohey’s son. The gardaí had no objection to its release provided that an undertaking was given that the e-bike would be “ridden in a proper manner” and with insurance.

Judge Elizabeth Healy sought an undertaking that the e-bike be used in accordance with the law, including registration and insurance.

Sgt Godfrey said there were costs to be paid for the removal and storage of the e-bike. Judge Healy said she would not make an order on costs. She observed that the application for the return of the e-bike was made on June 11. The judge granted the application.
