TWO MEN have been charged in connection with the death of a father-of-three at Athlunkard Street, Limerick city on St Patrick’s Day this year.

Darren Mason, aged 22, and Tyreke McNamara, aged 26, both with the same home address on St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park, Limerick, are charged with the murder of Liam Higgins, aged 55, contrary to common law on March 17, 2026.

The men appeared before Judge Patricia Harney at a sitting of Limerick District Court this Wednesday.

Garda Amy McDonagh said in evidence that when she arrested Mr Mason at a farm in Cappamore, County Limerick, he replied: “This is not murder.”

As Mr Mason exited the court room and was brought into custody, he said “see you next week”.

He then gave a thumbs up in the direction of the public gallery.

A third man, Brooklyn Treacy, 19, with an address at a separate residence in St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park, Limerick, is charged with the production of two articles over the course of a dispute at Athlunkard Street on March 17, 2026.

The court heard that when Mr Treacy was arrested, he replied: “Yeah, yeah.”

Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions have been received and both Mr Mason and Mr McNamara are to be tried before the Central Criminal Court.

None of the three defendants have indicated a plea regarding any of the charges.
