Council To Host Information Evening On Ballycanew Pedestrian Scheme

A Public Information Evening to discuss upcoming plans for a pedestrian footpath scheme in Ballycanew will be held tomorrow.

Wexford County Council is encouraging residents of the village to attend and say it’s an opportunity to view the plans, meet the project team, ask questions and share feedback.

Traffic and speeding have been issues in the village for a long time with residents calling for more traffic calming measures.

In 2024, the Ballycanew National School ran a survey which found 94% of vehicles entering the village from Gorey were speeding while 62% of cars heading out of the area were also above the speed limit.

Two new speed ramps were completed in October 2025 but many feel more needs to be done to make walking in the village safer.

This new proposed scheme consists of new footpaths, a pedestrian crossing, a speed ramp and associated drainage works.

The council wants to provide a continuous footpath between the existing pedestrian crossing at the school and the footpath by the graveyard.

Drawings are available for inspection on Wexford County Council’s website, or can be viewed in person at County Hall.

The council will consider any submissions or observations made in writing regarding the proposal, which can be submitted to Active Travel, Wexford County Council, County Hall, Carricklawn, Wexford, Y35 WY93, or via Wexford County Council Online Consultation Portal.

All submissions to be received by 4pm on Friday 28th August.

The event will take place between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday 11th August at the Ballycanew Community Centre.
