Four young men have been charged with igniting fireworks in Donegal.
The men are charged in connection with an alleged incident on October 16, 2025 at Carran, Portsalon.
The case was mentioned at Letterkenny District Court this week.
The accused men are: Eoin McGettigan, a 19-year-old of Kill, Carrigart; Adam Ward, a 19-year-old from Ford Garden, Kerrykeel; 20-year-old Dylan Logue of Tyrladen, Glencar, Letterkenny; and 19-year-old Mark Hunter, with an address at Drum, Portsalon.
The men, who have all been charged with the same offence, were not present in the courtroom for the brief mention of their case.
They are charged with igniting fireworks, a section contrary to section 80 of the Explosives Act, 1875.
Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that the men were charged with “letting fireworks off” and that the matter could be dealt with in the District Court.
Judge Emile Daly asked that disclosure be given to the respective legal representatives by the end of November.
The case was adjourned to January when the men will either plead guilty or seek a hearing date to contest the charge.
The case came as Gardai in Donegal issued a warning to anyone thinking about buying or using fireworks to have a rethink.
“Fireworks are not only dangerous but there are severe criminal penalties for anyone who is found guilty of the offence of igniting an illegal firework, throwing an ignited firework at a person or property or possession of illegal fireworks for sale or supply,” a Garda spokesperson said.
“The penalties are fines of up to €10,000 and 5 years imprisonment.”
The spokesperson asked that if people come across fireworks for sale, being used or any type of antisocial or illegal behaviour in the run up to Halloween to alert Gardai immediately on a 24/7 basis in Letterkenny on 074-9167100, Milford on 074-9153060, Buncrana on 074-9320540 or Ballyshannon on 071-9858530.
