Calls to protect Mayo’s ancient Boheh Stone | Connaught Telegraph

By Staff reporter · Connaught Telegraph · 4 August 2026

THE Boheh Stone needs to be transferred to the OPW to protect it.

The carvings on the rock predate the pyramids, but it is deteriorating, Councillor Peter Flynn has told a municipal district meeting.

A recent article in the Irish Times highlighted the damage being done to the stone, said Councillor Flynn. And the council owns a house next door to it which he described as 'a disgrace'.

The OPW were willing to take the stone in charge and do whatever needs to be done to protect it.

Councillor Flynn understood the council were to transfer it over and he has asked for an update on what's happening with it, so someone can get their hands on it and protect what is a national monument.
