Longford Rugby Club have been granted planning permission for the construction of a gym development at their facility in Demesne, Longford town.

The application specifically proposes the construction of “a standalone single-storey gym building incorporating gym/fitness areas, changing and toilet facilities, storage and plant rooms, additional car parking areas, connections to existing on-site services, and the carrying out of all necessary ancillary site works.”

In granting permission, Longford County Council attached nine conditions covering a range of interests, including proper planning, visual amenity, orderly development, public safety, and environmental protection.

In the application, the club outlined a proposal to triple its parking from 60 to 180 car parking spaces, adding 120 new spots.

The application stated that centralised funding had been allocated to Longford Rugby Club to provide for gym facilities, “which now form an integral part of training and conditioning for players.”

It added, “This location will also ensure that the concentration of traffic and activity around the clubhouse is somewhat diluted and that the two buildings can operate independently of each other.

The proposed gym building will be fully accessible to all with dressing rooms facilities provided, which can also be used by match players as required.”
