Laois man fined €250 for speeding - Courts - Laois Nationalist

A MAN who had been driving for the past 18 years was fined when he was caught speeding through Co Laois by gardaí.

Giving evidence at Portlaoise District Court last week, Garda Foy said that while he was on speed patrol duty at Ballydavis, Portlaoise on 25 November last year, he detected John Andrew Doyle (36), Boughlone, Mountrath Road, Portlaoise travelling in his car at a speed of 166km in a 120km zone.

He said a fixed charge penalty notice was issued to him for the offence, which went unpaid.

Mr Doyle’s solicitor Philip Meagher said that his client had co-operated fully with Garda Foy at the time.

He said Mr Doyle works as a delivery driver. On the date of the offence, he had a hospital appointment and was making up time because he was late for it.

Mr Meagher said that his client had not been in a financial position to pay the fixed charge penalty notice at the time.
