A man who was driving a car he had just bought and had no insurance has been fined in court.
Subhan Ullah Shirzad appeared before Letterkenny District Court in connection with an offence on January 13, 2026.
The 22-year-old, of McClure’s Terrace, Letterkenny, was before the court charged with driving without insurance.
Shirzad represented himself in court and told Judge Emile Daly that he accepted the charge.
Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that Sirzad was stopped at 11.25 in Kilmacrennan and a lawful demand was made to produce documents. While Shirzad elected to produce his insurance at Letterkenny District Court, nothing was produced.
Shirzad told Judge Daly that he had: “Bought a new car, the insurance didn’t reply and I was going to arrange insurance.”
Shirzad said he works in a hotel and needs his car to travel.
Judge Daly informed Shirzad that the court had discretion not to disqualify a person when they have no previous convictions for driving without insurance.
Judge Daly convicted and fined Shirzad €350 and gave him four months to pay the fine.
