A man has avoided a driving ban after being caught driving without insurance in Donegal.
Roman Chukov was before Ballyshannon District Court charged in connection with an incident in Ballyshannon in July 2025.
Chukov, a 48-year-old of Atlantic Point Apartments, Bundoran, was charged with driving without insurance and failing to produce insurance.
Garda Mark Geraghty told the court that at 3pm on July 7, 2025 he stopped a grey BMW 320D at Coolcholly, Ballyshannon.
The manner of the vehicle’s driving alerted the Gardai at a roundabout and the mobility device subsequently alerted officers to the car being uninsured.
Garda Geraghty told the court that he made a lawful demand for Chukov to produce insurance documentation, but he did not do so.
Under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, the car was seized and Chukov admitted to having no insurance, the court heard.
Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that Chukov has no previous convictions.
The defendant told Judge Éiteáin Cunningham that his family is here and he requires his licence for work purposes.
Judge Cunningham convicted Chukov and fined him €250, allowing four months to pay. Chukov was spared a driving disqualification, but Judge Cunningham warned: “If he comes back before the court and is convicted of a similar offence, he will be disqualified from driving for a period of four years.”
