Planning application for old CBS in Tramore deemed invalid The Munster Express

In news that would have been a relief to residents in Tramore, Waterford Council received a planning application for the Old Chrisitan Brothers school in Tramore last week.

This relief would prove short-lived however as the application was deemed invalid three days later.

The old CBS site has been a focal point for anti-social behaviour in Tramore, with reports of fires and vandalism causing serious distress to surrounding residents.

Independent Councillor Blaise Hannigan has been at the forefront of calls to tackle the issues, suggesting that they install CCTV and/or remove the portacabins that are often targeted.

“It’s been broken into on a monthly basis; drinking has been observed there on a regular basis. The guards go up and down without any success, two weeks ago they set one of the portacabins on fire so that the fire brigade had to come out,” Cllr. Hannigan said back in January.

While just last week The Munster Express reported his comments at the most recent Metropolitan meeting for Waterford Council.

“On bank holiday Monday there were three fire tenders which had to go and sort out fires again in that area,” he explained.

Shortly after these comments, Waterford Council received an application to remove the prefabricated classrooms and develop 12 new residential units.

The planning application was deemed invalid. According to planning documents, the reasons for this decision include, elevations of the existing structures were not included and the correct fee of €860 had not been paid.
