Draft design for Connaught Street car park upgrade due shortly | Westmeath Independent

A budget of €100,000 has been earmarked for the planned upgrade of the Connaught Street car park in Athlone, it was revealed at the latest meeting of the Municipal District of Athlone-Moate.

In response to a question on the matter by Cllr. Frankie Keena, the council said that the development of a draft design for the upgrade is ongoing and should be concluded in the coming weeks.

Thereafter, the council stated, the scheme will be costed and that "some of the proposed enhancements" are planned for progression in 2026.

The council said that a budget of €100,000 has been "set aside for scheme enhancement and development".

In addition, the council said that funding of the raingarden elements - which will form part of the upgrade proposal – is included in a recent funding request to the Local Authority Waters Programme) on foot of a request for expressions of interest, and that they await the outcome.
