Uisce Éireann set to meet Clare councillors over wastewater capacity - Clare Echo

COUNCILLORS have sought an update on the status and capacity of wastewater infrastructure serving areas around Shannon, with Uisce Éireann expected to meet with Clare councillors in the coming weeks.
The issue was raised by Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael Begley (IND) at the September meeting of the Shannon Municipal District.
Cllr Begley called for the MD to request a status and capacity update from Uisce Éireann on the Elton Court, Ballycannon North and Meelick sewage holding tank, pump station and riser main to Limerick Main Drainage.
In a written response, Senior Executive Officer Suzie Clifford said the Shannon MD office would forward the request to Uisce Éireann for a response.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Begley said he had previously submitted a query by email but had not received an answer, prompting him to raise the matter at the MD meeting.
He said he had been told that an “upgrade” was ongoing, but that this did not answer his question about the capacity of the infrastructure.
A council official told members that Uisce Éireann had been asked to attend meetings with Clare councillors in each of the four Municipal Districts over the next four to six weeks.
The official said the meetings would provide an opportunity for councillors to raise specific questions with Uisce Éireann.
Cllr Begley welcomed the proposed meetings but asked whether members would be able to receive specific answers to their questions.
The official said the discussions would be more specific than general and that councillors could submit their questions in advance of the meetings.
Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF) seconded the motion and welcomed the update.
