Former Entrepreneur of the Year appointed Chairperson of the Louth Economic Forum

Louth County Council has announced the appointment of Patrick Joy as the new Chairperson of the Louth Economic Forum (LEF). Mr Joy brings with him an exceptional record of entrepreneurship, leadership, and industry expertise, reflecting the Forum’s commitment to driving sustainable economic growth and job creation in County Louth.

Established in 2009, the Louth Economic Forum is the first of its kind in Ireland. It brings together representatives of the Council, State Development Agencies, and the local business community. The Forum plays a central role in advancing economic development and is a key partner in delivering the Louth Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) 2024–2029.

Welcoming the appointment, David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council said:

Patrick’s entrepreneurial leadership, strategic insight, and deep connection to the business community will be invaluable as we work together to deliver on the ambition of the Louth Local Economic and Community Plan, we look forward to working with Patrick and forum partners in positioning Louth County as one of the best places to do business in Ireland.

I would also like to express my sincere thanks to his predecessor Gerry Murphy for his dedication, expertise, and longstanding contribution to the Economic Forum and to economic development in our county, his direction and vision was greatly beneficial in developing Louth into a great place to do business.”

Patrick Joy is the founder of Suretank Group, a global manufacturing business, and was the 2013 Irish EY Entrepreneur of the Year. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer and MBA graduate, he continues to serve as an active member of the Suretank Board while also investing in and mentoring emerging start‑ups.

Mr Joy has previously served four years on the Board of InterTrade Ireland, where he chaired both the Funding for Growth and Acumen Committees, and eight years on the Board of the Irish Exporters Association, where he held the role of President in 2023. Outside of his professional work, he is involved in a wide range of organisations, including Engineers Ireland, The National Concert Hall, The Royal Dublin Society, and County Louth Golf Club.
