Anger in Dungloe over raw sewage being pumped into the bay - Donegal Daily

Locals are calling for Irish Water to intervene as raw sewage continues to flow into the bay along Dungloe causing a foul smell.

Locals in Dungloe have expressed their anger over the fact that raw sewage is being pumped into the bay.

Local councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig has written directly to Irish Water (Uisce Éireann) and the EPA for a response.

In a post on Facebook, Mac Giolla Easbuig shared a copy of the email he sent.

"Has Uisce Éireann discharged raw sewage into the bay at An Clochán Liath? I would request that this is investigated ASAP. I have been sent a photo of what locals are saying is raw sewage, and that the smell is unbearable."

Martin Boyle, who harvests seaweed along the coast of Dungloe, said that the raw sewage has been washed up on the rocks for the last number of weeks - and described the smell as awful.

Some locals in the area have said that this practice is not something new.

Fiona Ní Ghallachóir commented, "It's been done every couple of months for as long as I can remember. No one fishes it. No one collects mussels. No one swims in the pond. That's why! Since we were kids we knew this - and it's allowed to happen. Brown foamy scum and fibres of loo roll, the pipe runs straight out."
