Man before Tullamore District Court on criminal organisation charge

TIME has been extended for the service of a book of evidence in the case of a man accused of a drug offence and involvement in a criminal organisation.

Blazej Ozanski (31), Hawthorn Way, Ridge Road, Portlaoise , allegedly had cannabis in his possession, and cannabis in his possession for sale or supply to others, at the storage facility, Townspark, Mountmellick , on February 16 last.

Mr Ozanski is also charged with committing an offence contrary to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act between May 15, 2024 and February 16, 2026.

That charge alleges that he did, with the knowledge of the existence of a criminal organisation, participate or contribute to activities, to wit the fitting of sophisticated concealed compartments in motor vehicles, intending to or being reckless as to whether such participation or contribution could enhance the ability of the criminal organisation or any of its members to commit a serious offence, or facilitate the commission by the criminal organisation or any of its members of a serious offence.

The DPP had previously directed that a book of evidence be prepared in the case and at Tullamore District Court Sergeant Richard Thornton sought a remand to September 2 next for its service.

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the accused, who is in custody, to that date and told Mr Ozanski to speak to his solicitor Patrick Martin in the meantime.
