Limerick men to be sentenced for arson attack on city home

The court heard that the attack occurred at a property located at Sarsfield Avenue, Upper Pennywell, in Limerick City on November 1, 2023.

TWO men from Limerick City were remanded for sentence before the Limerick Circuit Criminal Court in connection with an arson attack that occurred in the city in November 2023.

David Kelly (42), of no fixed abode, Limerick, and Jamie Foreman (40), of Linden Court, Kennedy Park, Limerick City, were both before the Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on a single count each of “arson of a house”, prosecuting barrister John O’Sullivan told the court.

Mr Kelly’s barrister, Pat Barriscale BL, told the sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court that he was awaiting a report in respect of Mr Kelly from the probation service.

Mr Barriscale said Mr Kelly had been receiving treatment for addiction, and that, although Mr Kelly had previously missed an appointment with the probation service, he was seeking to re-engage with the service and he had been offered another appointment.

Mr Foreman was represented in court by barrister, Pat Whyms BL.

Judge Colin Daly said he would adjourn matters before the court for reports from the probation services in respect of the two defendants.

Mr Kelly and Mr Foreman were both remanded to appear before Limerick Circuit Court on June 10 to fix a date for their sentence.
